What this calculator does

Helps estimate monthly EMIs when converting credit card purchases to an EMI plan. Enter the amount, rate, and tenure to get an approximate monthly payment and total interest.

The costs banks do not put on the banner

Converting a purchase to EMI is almost always cheaper than revolving credit card debt, which in India commonly runs at 36–48% a year. But an EMI conversion is not free. Watch for three charges: a one-time processing fee (typically a few hundred rupees or ~1–2% of the amount), GST charged on the interest and the fee, and a foreclosure charge if you decide to pay the balance off early. The headline “low interest rate” can look very different once these are included, so compare the total outgo rather than the monthly figure alone.

“No cost EMI” — what it really means

A no-cost EMI does not mean the bank is lending free. Usually the interest is rebated as an upfront discount by the merchant, or the same amount is baked into the product price. You may still pay the processing fee and GST. It is a genuinely good deal when the cash price and the EMI price are identical — worth checking before you commit.

When converting to EMI makes sense

It is usually worth it if you cannot clear the full bill on the due date, since the EMI rate will be far below the revolving rate. It is usually not worth it if you could pay in full and are converting purely out of habit, because you then pay interest and fees you did not need to. As a rule: use EMI to escape revolving interest, not to justify a purchase you cannot afford.

Limitations & disclaimer

Indicative tool only. Promotional zero-interest offers, segmented rates, or deferred interest may behave differently. Verify terms with your card issuer.

FAQs

What rates are typical?

Credit card EMI rates vary by issuer and promotion. Common rates range from 0% (promotional) to 18% annually.

Can I prepay a card EMI?

Some issuers allow foreclosure with a fee. Check your card terms before prepaying.

How is this different from revolving interest?

EMI converts a purchase into fixed installments at a stated rate. Revolving credit charges monthly interest on unpaid balances.
